It's still a few weeks and I've got a lot to get through before my 21st birthday (June 25th, just for the record) but I keep getting asked by various people what I'd like. I'm never very good at picking presents, I usually just ask for make-up, perfume and toiletries but apparently people get bored of buying me those! Who'd have thought, ey! I guess my 21st is a little bit more special and I chose not to 'celebrate' my 18th, thus making my 21st the birthday where I get a proper keepsake present off my parents - I chose to get a ring made by a local jeweller and I cannot wait to get my hands on it; I went with my parents last week to pick it up and it's absolutely stunning.
Anyway, the point of this post is a kind of a wishful thinking list, because obviously I won't be getting everything. I'd been told how much I had to spend off my various family members and I came up with the following few ideas:

Now, for a couple of weeks I had my heart set on a lovely rose gold Michael Kors watch and then I remembered about these gorgeous Marc Jacob's purses. I asked the girls on Twitter which they thought I should ask for, watch or purse, and to be fair I don't think there was a definitive answer. A purse I would definitely get the use out of, I'd use it everyday and it would come everywhere with me; a watch I would probably wear for six months or so, get bored and forget about it and then another six months down the line I'd remember I'd got it and start to wear it again. In the long term, a watch would probably last longer but, it'd no doubt go out of fashion. DILEMMA. Oh, birthdays, why are you so hard?
Then, a few days ago, whilst I was in bed thinking and I suddenly realised that this would be a perfect opportunity to get my grubby paws on a big posh camera. I was never really bothered about getting one but since getting more and more into blogging I've noticed the difference in quality of images and it really is a good investment I think. I'd definitely want to learn how to use it properly and I genuinely believe it'd be nice to have one - it'd be so good to be able to capture images on birthdays and Christmases, get pictures printed for friends and family. I mean, mum and dad are forever taking photos with the intention of getting them printed but, although the quality is good, it can't be compared to that of a DSLR. I'm no expert but I'd definitely like to be. Plus, I could finally get some decent images on my blog ;)
If I do decide on a camera (I think I'm 80% sure I'd like one!) then comes the decision of which to get. The Nikon above has got good reviews for beginners, both The Gadget Show and Which? magazine both recommend them, but then on the other hand, do I want a Canon just so I can say I have a Canon?!
Thoughts? What did you all get for your 18th/21st or even 30th birthdays?

It's always difficult choosing a main present for landmark birthdays I think! I never ask my parents for presents, I prefer a surprise (: I love those purses, but think a Michael Kors watch or camera would make a better 21st gift, just my two cents! I'm buying the Nikon D3000 in the next few weeks, squee :D Ooh, and to actually answer a question that you asked instead of rambling as ever ;) I got a pair of Chanel glasses for my 18th, which I (obviously) wear every day haha. xx
ReplyDeleteOoh some lovely ideas there :) I have a Nikon camera and I love it. It's so easy to use and great! For my 18th I got mainly jewellery, I got a Tiffany bracelet of my Mum and lots of necklaces etc! Ooh also your birthday is the day before mine! x
ReplyDeleteOooho some lovely ideas, hope you get lots of nice things for you birthday! Want that camera! xx
ReplyDeleteI got a stupid singing doll for my 21st!! ahaha i say go for the watch, though the purses are GORGEOUS, the watch will be on display so much more! Is it expensive?
ReplyDeleteI'm so with you on the cameras - I'm fed up of my crappy blog pictures and love the clarity of DSLR's but will NEVER afford one, yikes!!
xx
I didn't get anything for my 18th or 21st haha, my 18th my mom had just had my little bro and was really ill and my 21st my nan was really ill with cancer and died 2 days later, so people were pre-occupied, understandably. I did get money towards my camera last year, but had to put half myself, you are very lucky to get a nice present :D I'd go for the purse or the camera, for sure, nikon has great reviews. I'm getting bored of my canon. Xxxxx
ReplyDeleteFor my 18th I got a Tiffany's bracelet and earrings, BUT they had to be returned because at the party I had, one of my drunken friends caused loads of damage to the venue and my parents had to fork out almost £1000 in fixing the damage, and after paying for my party and my presents they couldn't afford the £1000 - my birthday is right next to Christmas too! So for my 18th, I got a massive hangover, a bollocking from my parents and a realisation that some of my friends are twats - happy birthday! I'd go for the watch though because although you may not wear it much, you're going to be able to keep it forever, and pass it down through your family to your children or grandchildren and such, whereas a purse is more likely to break and therefore potentially won't be something you can keep forever. The camera would be a good investment too though, I've heard good reviews for Nikon xxx
ReplyDeleteGet a camera! Do do do it!
ReplyDeletehmm i'm currently having the birthday list dilemma as well, although i only have a couple of weeks to sort it out! i would think that a camera would be soemthing you owuld get a lot of use from, and they tend to be expensive, so maybe thats a good investment..
ReplyDeleteHmmm decisions, decisions! I got jewellery for my 18th and y laptop for my 21st. The purses and watch are very pretty but if I were you I'd go with the camera. My boyf and I bought that exact Canon a few weeks ago and it's amazing. My brother has a Nikon too and it's also amazing!
ReplyDeleteHappy decision making!!! (:

I hate it when people ask me what I want for birthdays, it makes me feel like they don't know me at all! I do really like those purses, I'd definitely be asking those one of those!
ReplyDeleteLove your little wishlist! I would love a DSLR too - mainly for taking photos of my jewellery, but photography has always interested me, despite not knowing much about it! My Mum bought me a photography book years ago, in the thought that I'd get a nice posh camera but I never have - must invest!
ReplyDeleteMy parents got me a white gold locket for my 18th/21st, can't remember which! I love it.
Looking forward to seeing your ring! x
lovely blog.
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh i love that mj purse! but yes, i bought myself a canon 400d when i was about 18 and while i've pretty much been broke ever since i still think it was worth it cos its lasted amazingly and ive used it soooo much and its my baby, its amazing to say i have a canon hahah! and it takes amazing photos. i cant vouch for a nikon cos i've never had one but they seem to take really nice photos too.
ReplyDeletehmm, if it was my 21st again i'd probably just ask for expensive make up because i have none! my mum bought me deodorant and toothpaste for my birthday this year bless her... she means well, shes just super practical. xx
Hmm the Marc Jacobs purses looks amazing, I would get the purple one if it was me. For my 18th I got a camera and a leather jacket as well as a bunch of money and small things.
ReplyDeleteMilestone birthdays are so great. Lots of family time and presents! Ha, good luck deciding :)

I absolutely love this list, especially the two MBMJ wallets and the Michael Kors watch! Those items are definitely on my wishlist as well!
ReplyDeleteI've got the 500D and I am more than happy with it! The ideal camera, trust me! If I'd ever go for Nikon it would have to be in the more professional segment, e.g. D90.
ReplyDeleteAnd don't even bother getting the 550D; thats just a way to make more money from canon. Apart from having 3m more megapixels (which is useless unless u want to print pics the size of a wall and also slows down the processor) it's exactly the same as the 500D.
Hope that helps!
